whenever i try to save a new session on my secondary hard drive i am prevented by the "not a valid audio drive" dialog. the drive: Western Digital (WD800JBRTL) 80GB 7200 rpm, 8MB cache OS- win xp disk is NTFS format, basic (not dynamic) drive, udma enabled. what am i doing wrong? also, if perhaps this HD is not compatible internally, might it work as an external ieee 1394? please forgive a perhaps stupid question, but i am new to pt and desperate. just bought this drive the other day specifically for pt. thanks for any assistance...
hi syo, I recently got the 120GB version of that drive and I had problems at first because I assumed that setting the jumper to master was what I need to do but I was wrong. The drive worked with the wrong jumper settings but it was very slow and acted kind of funny. You only have to set the jumpers to master if you are going to have a master and slave on the same ide cable, which I didn't. If it's the only drive on the ide cable you should set the jumper to the neutral position. I'm just taking a guess here so your problem might be completely unrelated to jumper settings but mine was. Here is a link to the jumper settings for the 80GB special edition drive: Good luck, Marc
syo, Is the audio drive an IDE or a Firewire drive? If it's and IDE, is it on the same IDE as your O/S drive? If so, you should set the audio drive to SLAVE. I would recommend putting the O/S drive on one IDE and setting it to MASTER and put the audio drive on a different IDE and setting it to MASTER then connect any other IDE devices such as CD-ROM's or CDRW and set those to SLAVE. marc and chuck... figured out a solution to my problem. i reformatted the hard drive within the drive manager in XP. it works! apparently western digital's formatting tool was the problem. the drive is pretty fast. i am content... this is the first time i have ever participated in any forum. i want to thank you both for offering intelligent, thoughtful assitance. i spent three nights searching all over the digidesign site and the web, called tech support etc. all to no avail. it meant alot to have fellow pt users jump in to help. happy holidays... syo
syo, i'm glad that it's working for you and the DUC is always here when you need. It's even here when you don't need it, it's just a fun place to be. Good luck, Marc
syo, THANK YOU! I had the same problem with my new WD 120GB and was panicked and frustrated until I saw the fix you posted, and sure enough reformatting it in drive manager did the trick. Thanks again! Les
hello les... glad it worked for you. believe me i can well understand your frustrations. there's unfortunately no arguing with such an error message. although i really did try... -syo
