Monitor Isolation

I've been looking into various pads, stands, and feet for decoupling my monitors from my mix desk. I decided to get a set of RAB Projax after reading reviews for all the different products. Twenty minutes into playing various music at fairly high level volume, I can honestly say these things work really well! Bass sounds tighter and all frequencies are more defined now. My desk is no longer resonating and coloring the sound.

I bought two little "tables" made for this. Very nice. With foam and all.

Yeah the difference is there for sure, with or without isolation.

I use this $0 diy speaker isolation: I folded up thick winter scarfs so they make about a 1" thick platform under each of my monitors. I have no idea if this helps but my guess is that there is less of a connection to the tabletop than simply putting the monitors directly on top of the table. I always meant to replace them with real isolators but never got around to it. For added bonus, I folded them a bit thicker in front than the back so my speakers are angled nicely. I think it's worth a try especially if you think your tabletop is resonating like a guitar top.
