Mac session to PC conversion?

Hello everyone. I am new here. I have a problem. Perhaps someone can help. Sorry if this is in the incorrect section. I have a DVD of a session which I believe must have been created on a Mac. The session file is is .ptf and the audio files are all .aif. I am running Pro Tools 6.4 on windows XP Pro with a digi001. When I try to open the session it says that it is an invalid session file. The audio files are no problem though, I can open them with all my other programs and import them into a new session etc. As far as I can gather, there are 2 possible problems here: Either the session was created in Pro Tools 7 or it was created on a Mac. Unfortunately I have no idea what system created the session. I could borrow an mbox and install Pro Tools 6.4 on an OSX86 partition on my PC but I have no access to a Mac or a PC with Pro Tools 7. Any advice on how to solve this problem would be very gratefully received.

If it was created on a older session (6.4) and MAC compatibility was not selected I think that you are in a bind. The only thing to do if you can read the audio is import it into the session and try to line it all up. Or, Possibly try to make a new session, then go into the old data and do a "IMPORT SESSION DATA" in Pro Tools and see if it will open and allow you to select all the tracks. If it does, and I forget as it has been YEARS since I was on 6.4, it should import in those data tracks with the audio pointed correctly. Try that and see what it does. If it reads the audio that is a good thing. MacDrive is a piece of software that is worth getting too in case it is a MAC formatted drive. 50 bucks for that app. Let us know what happens with the above issue. Doc

The ".ptf" extension indicates that the session was saved on a system using Pro Tools 7 or above. The file format changed. Older versions, like 6.4, use the ".pts" extension. Unfortunately, the only thing that you can do is have someone who has a 7.x version of Pro Tools open the file for you and save it as a 6.4 compatible session.

Thanks for the reply. Could I potentially email just the small session file to someone without the audio files and have them save the session as a .pts? If that would be possible, is there anyone here who could help me out?
