Yes, I've considered making my first feature req. about this, but with 4 around the corner it makes more sense to wait.

6\8 in in tech terms a compound duple time, hence in most cases it's emphasis is on the 1 and 4, creating a duple or 2 feel, 3\4 is a triple (non-compund as in there's is only one set of triples) that being said, tech jargon aside 6\8 is usually felt as 2 groups of 3, (african walking beat), wheras 3\4 is your standard waltz feel BTW, i didn;t go to berklee, though my music college is an affiliate, so we use their curriculum, :)

I count 6/8 as: 1 & ah, 2 & ah I think of it as being like 2/4, but triplet time. In the Bond Band (in my sig) one of the songs (Mr Kiss Kiss Bang Bang ) is in 9/8, which I count as 1 & ah, 2 & ah, 3 & ah, so I think of it as 3/4 counted in triplet time. Then there's another in 12/8, which I count as 1 & ah, 2 & ah, 3 & ah, 4 & ah I'll shut up now, I'm probably just adding to the confusion :D Pete

While 6/8 is counted 1 & ah 2 & ah, and 3/4 is counted 1 & 2 & 3 &, it does not matter. REAPER should not have such assumptions hard coded. It should allow you to specify the beat lines and metronome emphasis yourself, for each time signature change. If I want 6/8 to sound like 1 & 2 ee & ah in one part of the song and like the "normal" 1 & ah 2 & ah elsewhere in the song, then REAPER should let me do it.

I agree completely with Pete & Greg - REAPER's hallmark customizability / adaptability / flexibility seem to trip over their own feet in this arena. Edit - Adam's right too. Everyone's smarter & quicker than me, methinks.

I'm sorry, I'm new here and I just had to speak up. Sightlessness does not represent all Berklee students :) I never heard of the BIN, but then it's been ten years since I've been there, so I don't really know what their opperation is about now. One thing I know hasn't changed is how to subdivide 6/8:) Can't think of a single reason 6/8 would ever be divided in to 3 sets of two eighths. I'm certain that is not what Berklee taught him, so either he mis-learned or he had a brainfart. I'll chalk it up to brainfart...it's okay, it happens to me all the time. Anyway, I'm just about at the end of my trial period with Reaper and ready to convert. One of the first projects I tried with it was in 6/8 and I didn't notice this issue. Doesn't mean it wasn't there, it just wasn't something that ever got in the way of my work flow. I'll probably notice when I try something with odd meters. But yes, seems like quite a major oversight.

Sightlessness was joking, methinks.

what would be i think a very good improvement would be polyrhythmic quantize. cubase and PT have this down really well, and it's quite usable - now very rarely does one hear a raging fanfare for a quintuplet over 4 1\4 notes - or crazy stuff like 13 over 17 off the 3rd 16th note. Still, stuff like that can and does get used (well maybe not 13 over 17 off of the 3rd 16th), and is quite easy to do in the Cubase style quantize dialogue besides, quintuplets are just so nice to listen to ba da da da daaaa

The only thing that would cause me to even consider any other app is this. A little polish on the quantizing as it is now would be OK for my purposes, but the visual feedback from grid lines are crucial to composition imo and can't be overstated. I really hope the devs agree and have this on the agenda!

I have never seen a DAW do polyrhythmic meters! (though some may, I haven't been aware of who and how). I would love it! I'm thinking Stravinsky's Patrouchka where there's some instruments playing in 3/4 on top of others playing in 7/8. Likewise 2/4 on top of 5/8. Occassionally I want to go down these roads, but it seems like it's one of those things that will only work on paper (and when performed). Can we push the Reaper team to challenge themselves and develope this feature that, to my knowlege, no other DAW has? *edit* I'm sorry, GWOK, did you say cubase and PT already do this? I never knew.
